Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) covers the age range from birth to five years of age. There are seven areas of learning and development within the EYFS curriculum.

There is an expectation that children should have a firm foundation of the three prime areas, as these have been proven to be essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.

The three prime areas are:

  • Communication and language

  • Physical development

  • Personal, social and emotional development

As children grow and strengthen their skills in the three prime areas, they begin to develop their abilities in the four specific areas. These are:

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the world

  • Expressive art and design

At St Richards Preschool we understand that children progress these in seven areas of learning through play, and when they feel safe and happy in their environment.

There is also a parents guide to help you understand and support your child’s development at home.
